Peter is the man to contact if you fancy a full day's ride on a Sunday
Contact him at the clubroom or call him directly to find out at what time and place they are meeting and where they are heading for. It will be somewhere for an all-day breakfast and then somewhere else for the pudding!
You don't have to stay out all day. You could ride part of the way with the group and then turn round to make your own way home, to suit your own abilities.
Dave Scargill organises training rides. Sundays meet at Birdwell at 9am and, when the clocks go forward, there will be an evening ride organised.
To find out when and where, see Dave at the clubroom or give him a ring if you want a couple of hours of suffering!
If you know anyone who wants to start cycling and needs a more sedate or shorter ride, on weekdays or the weekends to get them started and give them confidence to ride on the road or with a group, please tell Christine and something can be arranged.
To coincide with national Cycling Week in June, "Barnsley Bike User Group" will be having a display and a 'Virtual Bike' in the town centre. Also a new pack of short cycle routes around the Barnsley area will be launched. These are aimed at novice and family cyclists with rides up to 19 miles on reasonable tracks and quiet roads and hopefully mroe people will use the bikes they have in their sheds and garages.
As last year, Steve Myatt will organise two Audax events, the 100km on 11th March, which incorporates the club's Reliability Ride, and the mroe challenging 'Rahnd Tarn' on 30th. Both were very successful in 2006 and, although it snowed on the way back from Thorne in the 100km, it wasn't too bad. The weather was really superb, however, for the 70 mile hilly event round the Barnsley boundary. Many of the visiting riders were very impressed by the route and the views. If you haven't ridden either of these events before, and would like the route sheets, please contact Steve.
The 2007 100km has now been held, on a glorious day with 65 riders, including 18 from our own club. Everyone finished but, with the wind against on the return leg, five were outside the time-limit. Youngest to complete the course was 11-year-old Richard Cherry.
John Woodhouse is our keenest Audax rider amd this year intends to qualify to ride the Paris-Brest-Paris in August, being held only once every four years. He has to ride events up to 600km, beforehand, to prepare for this 1200km epic. Twelve times as far as our March Audax! Good luck to John.
On 25th February, the Tom Simpson Reliability Ride was held, with a number of club-members takin part.
The club is affiliated to this organisation and items of interest are on the club noticeboard. Howeever, you may wish to join as an individual, for £6, so that you receive literature direct. Visit the Trans-Pennine Trail website for further details.
